I feel I must use a phrase my four year-old niece likes to use when she knows something isn’t quite right, in reaction to the news that the Republican National Committee has elected it’s first African-American Chairman. “Are you ridiculousing me?”

First it was Sarah “I Can See Russia From My House” Palin, to woo the women from Hillary and now it’s Michael “I’m Black like Obama” Steele, to try and show that the Republican party isn’t really a party of old, white men. Do we sense a pattern here from the Republicans? Not a true, heartfelt bone in their old, white bodies.

Again, as an American I am offended that the Republican party gives us such little credit that we can’t see what is blindingly obvious. They picked Palin as a brilliant marketing move to garner the votes of women and intrigue men. Palin made a great poster child for women looking to show that we can, indeed, have it all. Men saw a MILF. Brilliant move by the Republicans. Unfortunately for them, Palin actually had to open her mouth. Not so brilliant move by the Republicans. Now, it’s Michael Steele, the great Black Savior of the Republican party. If Obama can do, so can Steele *bump fist*!

Admittedly, I don’t know much about this Steele guy, but everything I need to know as to why he was chosen to be the new RNC leader I can see with my eyes. Classic Republican politicians’ knee jerk reaction to the American people voting for a black President. Instead of re-shaping their party to fit what the majority of Americans find appealing (skin color isn’t it), they try and pander to what they see as some fashion trend…to be black. Affirmative Action gone awry, ironically by a party that historically is anti-affirmative action. Again…typical Republican reaction to things they just don’t get. And they still don’t get it. I find it even more amusing that they seem to be pissing off a core, although they don’t like to claim these types are part of their core, of their members. Check this gem out, from David Duke. Steele is a “black racist” so says David Duke, an “Obama Junior”. Yes, that David Duke. Would it be completely off color (ahem) to say to David Duke (KKK), isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black??

Michael Steele, I feel sorry for you in a way that I almost felt sorry for Sarah Palin. You’re being used. You’re a pawn. You’re just another example of a deceitful, thinly veiled attempt by the Republican party to play catch-up to a country(and world) that has clearly moved on from your tired rhetoric.

I think I might need to write a piece on Nancy Pelosi, just to keep this from becoming a Republican bashing blog. It’s just that, they make it so easy right now.

I haven’t blogged in a while, for many reasons. Lack of time being one of them, but mostly…I have actually have too much to say. I find it very difficult to stay on course because when I get started talking about one point, it inevitably leads to another, then another and I end up somewhere south of coherent. I’ve been doing some reading and imagine my “surprise” (um, not really) to find out that through all the lessons that the Republican party has learned during this election was not that people wanted more optimism from their government, not that people wanted a more honest and earnest political leader, not that people voted against the same old rhetoric, not that people could look past race and traditional party lines. Oh no, the GOP in all their infinite wisdom has learned that in order to regroup and refocus to win more elections, they must rebuild their party around social conservatism. They point to the passage of so many anti-gay measures that were on the ballots across the country. The people have spoken, they say. The “sanctity of life” and the “sanctity of marriage” is what really matters.

Excuse me?

And speaking of crazy people, I read that the “Reverend” Phelps will be protesting at Barack Obama’s grandmother’s funeral. I know this is bad, but I wish someone would just take him out. I hate to even post this link, but go ahead and check out www.godhatesfags.com. Just warms the heart, doesn’t it??

And lastly, in the most disgustingly laughable irony I ran across this story in the St. Pete Times online edition. Apparently, the election of Obama has fueled some insane assault rifle binge buying. Here are some quotes’

And my MOST favorite quote from the whole article…

To steal from SNL Weekend Update, to this I say…Really?? REALLY? OMG, Are you SERIOUS??

Let’s take a look at all the anti-gay legislation that passed Nov. 4. Legislation that creates second-class citizens, legislation that demoralizes, demonizes, and in effect dismissed millions of Americans as equals in this country and these guys are quaking in there redneck boots about their rights to own ASSAULT WEAPONS?? They fear their rights are being taken away?! I am utterly overwhelmed by disbelief at the pure ignorance of certain people.
